Innovation as an avenue to economic growth was discussed between Prime Ministers Nikolay Denkov of Bulgaria and Daniel Risch of Liechtenstein on January 16, the Bulgarian government wrote on its Facebook page. The two met during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Denkov and Risch also talked about Bulgaria's planned accession to the euro area. They concurred that the act will allow the two countries to expand their economic relations.

Liechtenstein is a world leader for new technologies and innovation, the Bulgarian government said in its post. Industry accounts for the largest part of Liechtenstein's GDP. The country offers more jobs than the number of its citizens, which makes the local labour market attractive to Austrians and Germans. Liechtenstein is a preferred economic partner to the EU member states as it has adopted 95% of EU law and is a member of the European Economic Area.

Earlier, Denkov met with Karan Bhatia, Vice President for Government Affairs and Public Policy at Google. They discussed artificial intelligence (AI) in education and public services and the fight against disinformation, the Bulgarian government said. Bhatia said that Bulgaria holds a key place on the map of AI developers. Denkov noted that technological companies and the Bulgarian government have shared interests, particularly as regards AI application in education and services.

Google and the government in Sofia can work for the development of AI-based personalized learning tailored to the talents and the interests of each individual student, the government said. Furthermore, their cooperation can make public services more accessible, effective and useful. The sides will hold further talks in Sofia.

The Prime Minister said that political and technological efforts should be united in the fight against disinformation on the internet. The assistance of technological companies is vital for the success of this struggle, he added. Bhatia assured him that Google has been making extraordinary efforts on this front, especially since the start of the war in Ukraine.
