On this date in Bulgarian history:

1878: The city of Yambol is liberated from Ottoman rule during the Russo-Turkish War of Liberation (1877-1878).

1991: Sofia officially applies for full membership of the Council of Europe.

1996: Friendship and Cooperation Agreement signed with Croatia.

1998: An explosive device goes off in front of the editorial offices of the newspapers published by Media Holding AD in Sofia. Nobody is hurt. The neighbouring buildings sustain damages.

1999: The EU-Bulgaria Joint Consultative Committee holds its constituent meeting.
