Customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint on the border with Turkiye have found undeclared currency worth some BGN 900,000 during an inspection of a truck leaving the country, the Svilengrad Customs' regional press centre reported on Thursday.

A semi-trailer truck with a Turkish registration plate arrived at the checkpoint on January 9, travelling from Germany via Austria and Bulgaria to Turkiye. During a thorough customs check, a total of GPB 394,320, equivalent to BGN 897,417, was found in its semi-trailer.

The driver, a 50-year-old Turkish national, has been constituted as an accused party and has been assigned a bail amount of BGN 10,000. An investigation is currently underway.
