The State Agency for the Bulgarians Abroad (SABA) awarded a gold badge to Ivan Nenov for his contribution to Bulgarian culture and literature in Ukraine, strengthening of Bulgarian-Ukrainian ties, and on the occasion of his 80th anniversary. This award was at the suggestion of the Association of Bulgarians in Ukraine, SABA announced on its website.

Ivan Nenov is a writer of Bulgarian origin, journalist and translator, born in the town of Izmail, Odesa region.

Over the years, he has been honoured as a Meritorious Journalist of Ukraine, a member of the National Union of Writers of Bulgaria (2003) and that of Writers in Ukraine. He writes in Bulgarian, Ukrainian, Russian and Gagauz, and speaks eleven languages.

At the Odesa Television and Radio Company, he worked his way up from television commentator to editor-in-chief to deputy director-general. Nenov is also an associate professor in the Department of Philosophy and Public and Political Sciences at the Odesa Regional State Institute under the President of Ukraine.

The theme of peace and harmony in Ukraine runs through Ivan Nenov's work, and his leitmotif is "The more united the diaspora, the stronger the state."

The award will be presented to him during the visit of SABA Executive Director Raina Mandzhukova to Odesa.
