On Christmas Eve, Bulgarians living in the Moldovan town of Taraclia observe traditions inherited from 200 years ago.

People at the Vasil Levski Youth Multicultural Centre, which opened on November 1, 2023, believe that customs should be preserved, and the older generation should not only attract but also train the young how they are performed. That is why on Friday the centre organised a theatre performance to demonstrate the Christmas Eve customs in a Bulgarian family from Taraclia.

The performance featured students from Gregory Tsamblak State University and students from city schools who attend the centre.

"We want to show the younger generation what the traditions of the Bulgarians were in the distant years. But the most important thing is not only to show it to them, but also for them to participate in this process so that they can feel the spirit of Christmas," Elena Naseca, director of the centre, told BTA.
