site.btaInterior Minister Demands Dismissal of Two Senior Police Officers in Stara Zagora
Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov and Interior Ministry Secretary General Zhivko Kotsev on Friday held an emergency meeting with the heads of the chief and regional police directorates in the country, the Interior Ministry said.
The meeting was in connection with the death of a man in Stara Zagora during detention by the police and the actions of the officers.
Minister Stoyanov asked for the dismissal of the deputy head of the police department in Stara Zagora and of the security police chief.
The meeting identified omissions which need to be addressed and Stoyanov has ordered a review of the normative framework related to police officers’ training. The aim is to improve the quality of training, its intensity and consistency and ensuing control.
The approach of police officers n the field to the members of the public should change radically and they should be an example of humane attitude, Minister Stoyanov was categorical.
The leadership of the Interior Ministry will take steps to equip police cars with cameras and all police officers with body cameras.
The Institute of Psychology will step up its activities in order to teach police officers how to make adequate decision in crisis and risk situation and police officers will have weekly sessions.
“We won’t tolerate any examples of unprofessional attitude and we’ll be uncompromising in cases of lack of leadership control,” Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov and the Ministry's Secretary General Zhivko Kotsev stated.
