Samokov Mayor: Bulgaria, and Borovets in Particular, is Safe Destination

Samokov Mayor Angel Dzhorgov Monday said that the message for this winter season is that Bulgaria, and the skiing resort of Borovets in particular, is a safe destination. He was speaking at the BTA-organized forum "BG TOURISM - WINTER 2023/2024”, held at the town art gallery in the southwestern town of Samokov.

Dzhorgov thanked for the government for the promotion of Bulgarian winter resorts and stressed that a partnership between the state, municipalities, business and media is needed for the sector to develop.

The Samokov Mayor noted that tourism is a country's calling card to the world and mentioned Greece and Turkiye as examples of countries that use it to promote their industries.

Tourism in the mountain resort of Borovets has contracted by 8% in the outgoing year compared to the same period in 2022, which is largely due to the scarce snow last winter, Dzhorgov said. He expressed hope for a strong 2023/24 season.

He added that Samokov is a popular destination not only for ski tourism, but also for rural tourism, which saw an increase of about 10% compared to 2022.
