site.btaGovernment Says BGN 260,000 Is Set Aside for Repair and Recovery of Soviet Army Monument in Sofia

The government has provided BGN 260,000 for repair and recovery of Sofia's Soviet Army Monument. It made public Thursday an ordinance it issued about that on December 8 and signed by Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov.

The local authorities started to dismantle the monument on December 12 after experts found that it needs urgent repairs. They said their plan is to take down the monument for repair and then move it and set it up at a different location. The opponents of the move suspect that the real plan is to simply dismantle the monument and then lock it up some where or even destroy it.
