National News Agencies of Bulgaria, Argentina Sign News Exchange Agreement

The Bulgaria News Agency (BTA) and the Argentine TELAM news agency will exchange news under a cooperation agreement signed electronically by BTA's Director General Kiril Valchev and TELAM's President Bernarda Llorente.

The agreement provides that each party will receive the full set of news feeds in English of the other party, and both parties have the right to use this information in their news sections free of charge. According to the agreement, each of the two agencies will offer the other one significant news story from its country every day with English text and a photo, which the other agency will publish on its distribution channels for free reading by all visitors to the respective websites, provided the source is explicitly mentioned. The agreement also provides for the possibility of exchanges of experience and professional visits by journalists and other media professionals from both news agencies.

The national news agency TELAM was established on April 14, 1945 under the name Telenoticiosa Americana (American Telenews). Its headquarters are in Buenos Aires. The agency was set up as a public-private partnership, and on 24 June 1968 it became a wholly state-owned company. The agency's budget is part of the federal state budget, although it also generates its own revenue through advertising.

Following the agreement signed Wednesday, Bulgarian media can now also use, free of charge, news from 39 national agencies on four continents with which the BTA has concluded similar cooperation agreements.
