The submitted texts on the constitutional amendments will be edited between first and second reading as result of the public consultation on the issue, said Constitutional Affairs Committee Chair Radomir Cholakov during Friday's parliamentary debate on the bill.

He pointed out that the proposal to change the national holiday from March 3 (Liberation Day) to May 24 (Day of Slavic Alphabet, Bulgarian Enlightenment and Culture) not be supported. The job description of the Prosecutor General will be reformatted in such a way that the supervision of legality over each individual prosecutor will be abolished, he said. The Prosecutor General will remain the head of the Supreme Prosecution Office and a representative of the Prosecution Office in general - this is a consensual proposal, including by the professional communities, Cholakov added.

On individual constitutional appeal, he said any court would be given the option, at the request of a party or at its discretion, to refer directly to the Constitutional Court (CC). Cholakov noted that experts believe that this is the optimum for introducing the possibility for every citizen to be able to reach the CC.

Regarding dual citizenship, Cholakov said he would make a proposal for an amendment between the first and second reading - regarding the possibility for ministers to have dual citizenship with the consent of the National Assembly.
