The Bulgarian Embassy in Islamabad has hosted a fundraising gala in support of Pakistani children deprived of parental care. The initiative was part of the Lighthouse project, which aims to assist socially vulnerable children by providing them with a home, education, health and social support, the Embassy said on its website.

The event was organized at the initiative of the founder and executive director of the project, Amina Wattoo Kasuri, under the auspices of the Mahmud Ali Kasuri Welfare Trust.

Addressing the guests at the event, Ambassador Irena Gancheva said that the protection of the rights of children, the socially vulnerable and orphans in particular, is a shared responsibility and a key to the positive transformation and progress of any society and country. She praised the Lighthouse project, whose goal is to create a safe environment for Pakistani children deprived of parental care through education, sports and arts programmes so they can grow up in a loving atmosphere.

Gancheva said that it was an honour for the Bulgarian Embassy in Pakistan to stand behind this cause, which is in line with one of Bulgaria’s main priorities during its upcoming membership in the UN Human Rights Council for the period 2024-2026, namely the protection and promotion of the rights of children. The Embassy used the occasion to thank Pakistan for its support of the Bulgarian candidacy.

The event was attended by some 200 guests, including representatives of the diplomatic corps in Islamabad, politicians, and representatives of business, among others.
