Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and Energy Minister Rumen Radev will inspect the facilities of the Bulgaria-Serbia gas interconnection at the Kalotina gas metering station at 12 pm on Friday, the Energy Ministry’s press centre said.
The Bulgaria-Serbia gas interconnection was built earlier this year in line with the EU's objectives for creating an integrated energy market.
Thanks to the pipeline, Bulgaria gains access to gas sources from Western Europe via an entirely new route, while Serbia has access to liquefied natural gas terminals in the region and to the Southern Gas Corridor, the Ministry added.
The interconnector is part of a broader EU initiative, the Southern Gas Corridor, which aims to reduce Europe's dependence on Russian gas.
The Bulgaria-Serbia gas interconnection is 170 km long and runs from Novi Iskar (Bulgaria) to Nis (Serbia). It has a capacity of up to 1.8 bmc per year.
