A Bulgarian delegation took part in the second annual session of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) in Zagreb from November 27 to 30, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release on Tuesday. The event was held under the chairmanship of Croatia.

The Bulgarian delegation was led by Irena Dimitrova, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. In her speech in the plenary session, she highlighted the fight against anti-Semitism as a priority in Bulgaria's human rights policy. She presented information about the adoption in October of the National Action Plan to Combat Anti-Semitism for the period 2023-2027, and about the opening in September 2023 of a restored synagogue in the town of Vidin, which is among the largest in the region of South-Eastern Europe. Dimitrova pointed out that education and joint initiatives, including the commemoration of the Holocaust, are key factors to countering contemporary manifestations of anti-Semitism. She gave the example of the cooperation between the Bulgarian State Archives Agency and the World Holocaust Remembrance Centre "Yad Vashem", as well as the projects of Sofia University and the Ministry of Education and Science. Deputy Minister Dimitrova supported the priorities, including countering disinformation, of the British Presidency, which starts in March 2024.
