The Goethe Institut and the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music will present a concert dedicated to the cultural and folk diversity of Bulgarian traditional music on December 14, the organizers of the Goethe Institut said.
The event is part of the "Present Past" project launched in 2022 within the initiative of the Goethe institutes in Southeastern Europe, which is focused on the rich cultural heritage of the region. The concert will take place at the National Academy of Music and will feature two musical works by composers Peter Kerkelov (Bulgaria) and Chico Mello, (Brazil/Germany): Songs of the Primitive I and Equi-vocations. The guest soloist will be Viktoriia Vitrenko (Ukraine/Germany). The National Academy of Music’s Academic Folk Choir will also participate. The conductor and choir director will be Vanya Moneva.
The concert will present the two composers’ perspectives on creating folk music combining Kerkelov's background in Bulgarian traditional music and Mello's multicultural approach, the event organizers added.
The concert will be preceded by a series of masterclasses by soprano Viktoriia Vitrenko and composer Chico Mello.
