site.btaHungarian Photographer Mate Bartha Stages Exhibition in Sofia

A photo exhibition titled "Anima Mundi" presenting artworks by Hungarian photographer and documentary movie director Mate Bartha will be on display at the Lizst Institute in Sofia until January 31, 2024, the organizers from the Institute said.

Photography and videography are essential attributes for Bartha in his attempts to create a visual image of the mysterious city of all time, but they are also aids for observing its hidden connections and secret organizational forces.

The photographs in the exhibition were taken in different parts of the world, capturing actual and staged situations to recreate an unidentifiable Metropolis - a virtual place where "order of things and regularity of chance" can be explored.

Bartha’s project is a case of "investigation for investigation’s sake", or rather, of "an observation for observation’s sake". The artist captures urban spaces and views that usually go unnoticed in everyday urban use.

Matte Barta is an artist from Budapest who works in the field of photography and documentary. In 2014, he published his first book of photographs, Common Nature, through the Pecsi Jozsef Photography Scholarship. His diploma documentary film Downstream was awarded the Best Student and First Film at the 16th Verzio International Human Rights Film Festival in Budapest in 2019.
