Parliament established an ad hoc committee to investigate violations of the rights of mentally ill patients found by the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment and the Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria, and to prepare legislative changes to guarantee the equal rights of Bulgarian citizens. A total of 137 MPs voted in favour, there were no votes against or abstentions.

The committee will discuss and propose the abolition of the institution of interdiction.

The ad hoc committee will consist of 12 MPs, two from each parliamentary group, which would be elected for a term until its subject scope is exhausted, but no later than six months from its establishment. At the end of its activity, the commission should issue a report.

Denitsa Sacheva from GERB-UDF was elected as the chair of the committee.

The proposal was tabled by MPs from Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria.
