An exhibition marking the 100th birth anniversary of Bulgarian painter Magda Abazova (1923-2011) will open at Sofia's Kvadrat 500 Gallery, a branch of the National Art Gallery (NAG), on November 23, the organizers said on Friday.

Abazova did not adhere to any styles, dogmas or concepts. She distanced herself from the trends of her time while also being ahead of them, the organizers said. The exhibition features interiors, portraits, still life paintings and landscapes.

According to the NAG, Abazova had few one-artist exhibitions (just two until 1980), although she created a huge number of works.

The upcoming exhibition will highlight the artist's poeticized reality in which she is both a subject and a creator. It will present over 100 works, which are included in a bilingual catalogue.

Poems for Abazova, written by Tanya Kolyovska, Hristo Radevski and Palmi Ranchev, complement the paintings.
