Meeting in Brussels, the European People's Party (EPP) Political Assembly adopted an emergency resolution on November 14, reaffirming its strong support for Romania's and Bulgaria's accession to the Schengen Area as an element of its steadfast commitment to championing European integration.

The resolution urges all EPP member parties "to intensify their efforts to support Romania’s and Bulgaria's immediate accession to the Schengen Area and asks Austria to reconsider their positioning".

In a Facebook post, Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel thanked the EPP Group for the strong position and consistent support for Bulgaria's admission to Schengen. "We actively cooperate with the Spanish Presidency of the EU Council so that the matter stays high on the agenda," adds Gabriel, who is EPP Vice-President.

"Bulgaria's Schengen accession is a key priority for our country and is essential for Europe's stability. If it includes Bulgaria, the Schengen area will make the EU stronger and more resilient to the challenges we face. We continue the active dialogue on Bulgaria's admission to Schengen," the Foreign Minister writes.
