Ukrainian Ambassador: Modernization of Defence Capabilities Is Urgent Need for Secure World

The modernization of defence capabilities is not just a wish, an inspiration, an option but an urgent need to achieve a secure world, said Ukrainian Ambassador here Olesya Ilashchuk at a Sofia-hosted international conference, “The Modernization of Defence”.

The diplomat said that the concept of modernization in today’s realities should go beyond national visions. It should be based on a comprehensive transformation, technological development and strengthening of international cooperation, said Ilashchuk. “Our way, the fight of Ukrainians for our country and independence, is an example and call for a complete overhaul of defence capabilities. The role of NATO in this process for strengthening the architecture of the Euro-Atlantic security is decisive and has no alternative,” said the Ukrainian Ambassador.

Ilashchuk said that Ukraine is grateful to Bulgaria for the consistent support including Ukraine’s EU accession. Ukraine and Bulgaria have considerable potential for cooperation in the modernization of defence equipment and armament, and the exchange of experience in the application of new technologies, said the Ambassador.
