Deputy Minister: Defence Investment Programme Is Very Ambitious

The defence investment programme is very ambitious and will require serious financial resource, said Deputy Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov on Tuesday. He was addressing a Sofia-hosted international conference, “Modernization of the Defence”, organized by the Centre for Development and Policies.

Tuesday’s conference is very timely because the government, in keeping with its priorities, has already made several steps in the area of defence, said Zapryanov.

“In order to be prepared, we should have capabilities and take care of our defence. In keeping with this priority already this week the Defence Ministry will complete debates within the Defence Council of the investment programme which will be submitted for approval to the Bulgarian government and parliament,“ said the Minister.

He recalled that from 2024 Bulgaria will spend 2% of its GDP on defence.
