The Interior Ministry has received close to 2,000 alerts for violations of the election legislation, which is an unprecedented number, Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov said on Bulgarian National Television Monday evening. Those were submitted during a month until the end of election day on October 29.

He said that during the like period of the 2019 local elections, the alerts were 1,060. He believes that the near two-fold increase reflects a bigger confidence in the Interior Ministry among people, the press and political parties.

Pre-trial proceedings which have been opened based on the alerts total 168, which is a three-fold increase from 2019, Stoyanov said adding that two persons have been sentenced.

In his words, the Interior Ministry "is working very well" with the State Agency for National Security and there is no tension between them.
