The bomb threats that were sent to schools at the beginning of the week do not originate from Bulgaria and no link has been found to Russian hackers, said Interior Minister Chief Secretary Zhivko Kotsev on the morning programme of bTV.

“We have serious leads, we know the source and the place, we are working with foreign partners extremely well,” he added.

On Monday emails with bomb threats were sent to schools in six cities across the country – Burgas, Ruse, Sofia, Stara Zagora, Shumen and Yambol. No explosive devices were found by the police.

Kotsev said that all conditions will be put in place so that citizens can exercise their right to vote and the police will counter effectively all election violations, replying to a question about the preparations for the local elections on October 29.

Kotsev said that all risky voting sections have been identified and individuals influence the voting process and that all signals are investigated.

Some 467 alerts about elections violations have been submitted compared with 154 in 2019. The greatest number is in Burgas, followed by Varna and Sofia. Some 73 pre-trial proceedings have been launched.

The Chief Secretary said that currently there is no risk to the national security. “We have assessed all global and national risks,” he said.

For now the conflict is relatively localized and is developing in the Gaza Strip. If the conflict spills to the Middle East, then increased migrant pressure can be expected, said Kotsev.
