Prof. Stanimir Sirakov was presented with the 2023 Doctor of the Year Award by the Bulgarian Medical Association Head Dr. Ivan Madzharov. The ceremony took place at the National Museum of History.

He works in the field of endovascular surgery and has taken part in a number of clinical trials. He is the recipient of a Medical Award for leadership and innovations in the endovascular treatment of complex cerebrovascular diseases for 2023, has been nominated for the Pythagoras Award for an established researcher in life and medical sciences and has been included in a Best Doctors ranking of Darik Radio in 2012.

Prof. Sirakov has co-authored the book "Advances in flow-diversion devices for cerebral aneurysms, Frontiers".

The Doctor of the Year Award is conferred by the Bulgarian Medical Association for the 20th time at an official ceremony on the Day of the Bulgarian Doctor, October 19.

Dr. Daniel Dimitrov, who participated in the rescue of an American scientist who suffered an accident in a cave in Turkiye, received the award for medical dedication and ethics, which is awarded for the first time by the professional organization.

The award ceremony was attended by Health Minister Hristo Hinkov, Chairman of the Parliamentary Health Committee Kostadin Angelov, deputy ministers, Governor of the National Health Insurance Fund Stanimir Mihailov, Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova, Deputy Mayor Doncho Barbalov, hospital directors, representatives of academia, associations and patient organizations.
