Deputy Foreign Minister and National Coordinator for the Fight against Anti-Semitism Irena Dimitrova had a meeting with Ellen Germain, Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues for the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs at the US Department of State and Head of the US Delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

The two discussed measures against acts of anti-Semitism, which have been increasing internationally, and the importance of studying and remembering the history of the Holocaust. Germain described the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews 80 years ago as a unique act of humaneness, tolerance and courage in the history of Bulgaria and the Holocaust.

Dimitrova underscored the Bulgarian government's firm commitment to countering any acts of anti-Semitism. She said the country is to adopt its first action plan in this field.

Dimitrova and Germain also looked at international cooperation in combating anti-Semitism. They stressed IHRA's key role and Bulgaria's participation in its activities.
