In a statement to Al Jazeera TV, North Macedonia’s Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs and chief EU negotiator Bojan Maricic described the news of new demands put forward by Bulgaria as propaganda spread by the opposition in the country.

"With these constitutional amendments, we are making a distinction between the identities of Macedonians and Bulgarians, and removing the only major obstacle posed by our neighbours,” Maricic was quoted as saying by the Secretariat for European Affairs in Skopje.

The goal of the North Macedonian Government and the chief EU negotiator is to have the constitutional amendments adopted by mid-December, when a European Council summit is due to take place and one of the topics of discussion will be EU enlargement, so North Macedonia can continue its EU accession process along with Albania.

According to Maricic, there is no time to lose, and North Macedonia should do whatever is necessary not to miss this opportunity, as it has done before.
