Representatives of over 100 French companies willing to invest in Bulgaria attended a Bulgarian-French business forum on Thursday.
"Bulgaria has the potential to expand cooperation and attract more French investments in the energy sector, mechanical engineering, infrastructure construction, food industry, etc.," Deputy Economy and Industry Minister Nikolay Pavlov said at the forum, quoted by his Ministry.
He pointed out that, according to Bulgarian National Bank figures, the stock of foreign direct investments from France in Bulgaria amounts to EUR 1.1 billion. Pavlov added that France is one of Bulgaria's leading foreign economic partners. In the first half of 2023, two-way trade stood at EUR 1.4 billion. France is Bulgaria's sixth largest export market and the twelfth largest source of imports, with shares of 3.4% and 2.7%, respectively.
"An improvement of the business environment in Bulgaria is a major priority of the Economy and Industry Ministry. This cannot be achieved without the support of foreign companies," Pavlov noted. He presented the opportunities that Bulgaria's industrial parks and zones offer, as well as the national policy aimed at creating favourable conditions for attracting investments.
