A total of 624 pre-trial proceedings were initiated against organized criminal groups and individuals in the period September 1-30 for offences related to the production, possession and distribution of narcotic substances, the second monthly analysis of the Specialized Interagency Unit of the Prosecution Office and the Interior Ministry showed. There were 300 pre-trial proceedings for illegal trafficking in human beings and illegal migration.

A total of 522 specialized police operations were carried out during the month to counter illegal migration and 532 special operations to counter drug-related crimes. A total of 1,780 illegally residing third-country nationals were detained.

The analysis shows that the smuggling of migrants is predominantly facilitated by citizens of Ukraine, Moldova, Serbia, Romania, Poland, Russia and Estonia who use vehicles with foreign registration or rent-a-car vehicles. They enter the territory of this country and, after carrying out the transportation, leave it.

A total of 709 people were arrested and 33 laboratories/plants for drug production and cultivation were detected in connection with drug-related offences. There were 216 final judicial acts for drug offences and 197 judicial acts for smuggling of migrants.

The specialised inter-agency unit was established by a joint order between the Prosecution Office and the Interior Ministry in August to support the investigation of specific types of crimes. One of its main activities is monitoring the pre-trial proceedings initiated and conducted.
