A total of 95.8 kg of marijuana were found in a joint operation of the Interior Ministry and the Customs Agency, the Interior Ministry's press centre said here on Wednesday.

On October 10, in the area of the Vidin border crossing at Danube Bridge 2, a truck with a Bulgarian registration was stopped for inspection. The truck was carrying metal profiles from Hungary with a total weight of 20 tonnes.

Following a tip-off from the Ministry of the Interior, a scan with a mobile X-ray system was carried out, which discovered an area of unusual density on the floor of the trailer. The metal profiles were unloaded and 80 vacuum-sealed packets containing plant matter were found in a structural cavity in the trailer floor. Upon field drug testing, the contents of the packets tested positive for marijuana. The total amount of drugs found was 95.8 kg. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated under the supervision of the Vidin District Prosecutor's Office. The driver has been charged and detained for 72 hours.
