President Rumen Radev signed on Friday a decree dismissing Chief Commissioner Petar Todorov from the post of Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior. By another decree, the President appointed Chief Commissioner Zhivko Kotsev to the post, the presidential press secretariat said.

On Thursday, the Council of Ministers adopted a decision on a proposal to the President to terminate Todorov's powers and dismiss him from his post, and to appoint Kotsev as Interior Ministry Secretary General.

On August 23, it became known that Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov had sent a reasoned request to the President to replace Todorov. On the same day, in the Council of Ministers, Stoyanov said that he held Todorov responsible for the lack of organisation and control over activities in the Interior Ministry. Radev described the motives for the proposal to remove Chief Commissioner Todorov from the post as entirely political.
