EC Provides Copernicus Satellite Data to Bulgaria After the Floods, Is Ready to Offer Further Support

The European Commission said Thursday that, at Bulgaria’s request, it has provided Bulgarian authorities with data from the Copernicus satellite system on the state of the areas struck by the floods on the Southern Black Sea coast in recent days.

А European Commission spokesperson added that footage is of the area around Burgas. He said that if a request for assistance through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism is to be submitted, the Commission will do everything in its power to provide the assistance needed.

When a request for assistance is received through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, the European Commission contacts every EU member state in order to find out how each country can help, the spokesperson explained. He said that the response in such cases is instantaneous and if the Commission receive a request from the Bulgarian authorities, it will make sure to respond at once.
