site.btaDefence Minister to Take Part in Informal Meeting of EU Member States’ Defence Ministers

Defence Minister Todor Tagarev will take part in an informal meeting of the EU Member States’ Defence Ministers which will be held on August 29-30 in Toledo, Spain, the press centre of his Ministry on said Monday. The focus of the discussions will be EU's contribution to Ukraine's security, including the EU military mission in support of Ukraine, the three-pillar approach to reinforcing military assistance to Ukraine and assistance measures under the European Peace Facility.

Defence Ministers will also discuss the regional and global implications of the Russian aggression against Ukraine. NATO’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and the UN Under-Secretary General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix have been invited to participate in the session.

The security situation, EU military missions and operations in Africa and the Western Balkans in the framework of the Union's Common Security and Defence Policy, as well as progress on the EU's rapid deployment capability are also on the agenda for the meeting.

On August 29, Tagarev will also participate in the EU Satellite Centre Board meeting which will be held in Torrejon de Ardoz. The role, achievements and development of the Satellite Centre will be discussed, in line with the level of ambition defined in the Strategic Compass and the EU Space Strategy for Security and Defence.
