site.btaGolden Rose Festival Presents 12 Feature Films, 25 in Short Film Competition

A total of 12 feature films will compete in the feature-length competition categories and 25 in the short film competition at the 41st edition of the Golden Rose Film Festival (September 20-28, Varna), the National Film Centre (NFC) said Tuesday.

The 2023 Golden Rose short film competition is dominated by novels lasting between 20 and 30 minutes. The variety of themes and creative styles, as well as the maturity of the implementation in some of them, promise the entry of a number of new "voices" in contemporary Bulgarian feature cinema, the NFC said.

The programme includes "Beloved", Maya Vitkova's first film after "Victoria" (2014), Hristo Shopov's directorial debut "Test", "Inga" by Nikolay Urumov (producer of "Petya of my Petya"), "Theatrical Romance" by student Oscar nominee (with "Tanda") Teodora-Kosara Popova, "13th August", the debut of theatre actor Ventsislav Sariev and 20 more short films.

Following the success of Stefan Komandarev's "Lessons of Good" at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, Golden Rose is the first festival to screen the film before its official premiere in November. 

A red carpet and a meeting with the team await films such as the feature debut of animator Teodor Ushev - "F 1.681", the feature debut of documentary filmmaker Tonislav Hristov - "The Good Driver", which will bring to Varna the audience's favorite Malin Krastev and Gerasim Georgiev-Gero, the new interpretation based on motifs from Yovkov's "The Plague" - by Ivan Vladimirov and starring Svezhen Mladenov. A historical theme will be brought forward by "Notes on a Betrayal" with Georgi Dyulgerov. Yana Titova's second film, "Diada", will also be presented.
