Varna will host the International Biennial of Graphic Art for the 22nd time. Over 530 graphic works by 324 artists from 53 countries will be arranged in the halls of Boris Georgiev City Art Gallery, the organizers said on Wednesday. The best authors will be awarded at the official opening on August 11. They will be selected on Wednesday by an international jury.
Artists from Mexico, Thailand, Japan, South Africa, Bangladesh, Chile, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic will take part in the event.
The International Biennial of Graphic Arts in Varna is one of the oldest in the world with over 40 years of history. It is the largest on the Balkan Peninsula. It selects works with classical graphic techniques, without the interference of modern digital technologies, the organizers explained.
After the decline of the Belgrade Biennial and the shift in the focus of the Ljubljana Forum, the Varna Biennial remained the last major graphics biennial on the Balkans, they added.
