President Rumen Radev stated Monday that the “banalization of fascist theses and acts in recent months" is alarming. “You see that the forums are overflowing with aggression. Lists of unreliable journalists are being drawn up. Intellectuals are calling for control and censorship of the media. At the same time, the memory of anti-fascism is being erased. Bulgarians snitch on Bulgarians on the website Myrotvorets and the government does not react. Various revisionist and anti-Semitic texts are circulating. This is an offensive against freedom and democracy, and our society must be vigilant," he added.

The head of State also commented on the case of the teenage girl in Stara Zagora who was a victim of violence, turning the attention to the government’s stance on the issue: “It is not a sign of good taste to justify the ridiculous changes in the Constitution with the malicious act that happened in Stara Zagora,” he pointed out. He urged the society to continue its public pressure, as he argued that it was the reason that the law enforcement authorities did their job.

Commenting on the proposals submitted by Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria, GERB-UDF and Movement for Rights and Freedoms for amendments to the country's Constitution, limiting the powers of the head of State in appointing caretaker governments, Radev said that the draft amendments to the Constitution are part of the offensive against democracy.
