In an interview with the state television in North Macedonia, President of the Assembly of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, said that he believes the procedure for constitutional changes is a mission possible and the interests of the State and citizens should come first.

Xhaferi explained that the procedure related to amending his country's Constitution has strict deadlines, and he described as unreasonable the claims of VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski that the texts of the concrete proposals are unreasonable and that the changes in the constitution threaten the national interests of the country.

Xhaferi said he is confident that there will be no new conditions from Bulgaria, but the obligations of the negotiating framework must be met and the decision is entirely in the hands of the MPs in North Macedonia, the State broadcaster reports on its website.

Talat Xhaferi declined to answer the question whether North Macedonia is closer to constitutional changes or early elections, which the opposition wants, but specified that the procedure for dissolving Parliament and scheduling early elections requires the votes of 61 MPs and if the opposition secures this number of MPs, he will put the proposal to a vote.

In the 2020 elections, the VMRO-DPMNE party won 51 seats in the 120-seat Assembly of North Macedonia.
