Two Russian sailors died off Varna on Monday, the local Prosecutor's Office of Appeal said on Tuesday. According to initial information, they were Russian citizens, aged 32 and 58, part of the crew of a ship flying the flag of the Republic of Belize and passing near Varna.

The prosecutor's office told BTA that the Varna District Prosecutor's Office is currently conducting preliminary proceedings investigating the case of causing death by negligence, but depending on the information gathered during the investigation, the case could be transferred to the Varna District Prosecutor's Office.

The incident occurred on the evening of July 3, 2023. Forensic examinations have already been appointed to establish the exact causes that led to the deaths of the sailors on board the ship.

Actions are currently underway to establish the causes of the fatal incident, and interrogations of crew members are also pending.
