The discussion on [the appointment of] regional governors is yet to come, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel told journalists Thursday.

Despite their stated desire to leave, regional governors must by law continue to perform their duties. The Prime Minister's message was very clear. The discussion about the district governors is yet to come, because it also has to be held first with Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and, of course, with the parliamentary groups, Gabriel said.

All of Bulgaria's 28 regional governors tendered their resignations on June 12.

The Deputy Prime Minister assured that the newly elected regular government is making progress in the process of filling the deputy ministerial positions at the ministries, vacated on the last day of the previous caretaker cabinet.

Gabriel recalled that the talks on the finalisation of the governance programme were ongoing. "By the end of the week and the beginning of the next week, each minister will have a meeting with the representatives nominated by the parliamentary groups, respectively by the relevant committees. The aim is to finalise the programme within the next few days," she added.
