The Plenum of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) Monday continues the procedure for early dismissal of Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev. It was suspended last Thursday, after deliberations that lasted over 13 hours.

Justice Minister Atanas Slavov believes the SJC may come to a vote during this sitting, and ultimately relieve of office the current Prosecutor General.

The procedure was initiated after a motion was made by four members of the Prosecutors Chamber of the SJC over a statement made by Geshev on May 15 during a press conference in which he used the expression "political trash" to refer to politicians in Parliament. The four prosecutors that initiated the procedure said that undermined the prestige of the judiciary.

Last Thursday, th1e SJC head deputy Prosecutor General and director of the National Investigation Service (NIS) Borislav Sarafov, as well as the deputy director of the National Investigation Service (NIS) Yassen Todorov, and the press officer of the prosecutor's office Marchela Panteleyeva.

Deputy Prosecutor General Daniela Masheva is also expected to be heard today about events that took place before the press conference at the Prosecutor General's work meeting.
