Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov has appointed two deputy ministers, one of finance and one of defence, the Government information said Thursday.

Georgi Klisurski was appointed Deputy Minister of Finance. A master in Public Administration from Harvard, Klisurski also has an MBA in Business Administration and specialized in Finance from the The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He was adviser to the deputy prime minister responsible for European funds and finance minister in the Kiril Petkov cabinet, Assen Vassilev. Klisurski worked as a manager at PayPal. From August 2022 until March 2023, he was chairman of the Board of Bulgaria Heli Med Service EAD, established by the regular government of prime minister Kiril Petkov in August 2022 to provide air transport for the needs of Bulgaria’s emergency medical care.

Atanas Zapryanov was appointed Deputy Minister of Defence. This is his third appointment to the post, after holding the same position from July 2016 until January 2017, and from May 2017 until April 2021. Zapryanov has held various command and staff command and staff positions in the Signal Troops of the Bulgarian Army. He was head of the G. S. Rakovski Military Academy, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Bulgarian Army for Resources and Representative of the Chief of the General Staff of the Bulgarian Army in the NATO and EU Military Committees.
