Sofia, March 16 (BTA) - The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases
in Bulgaria reached 283,194 after 19,497 tests identified 4,637
new infections, according to data posted on
https://coronavirus.bg/ on Monday. The test positivity rate
stands at 23.8 per cent, the highest since December 22, 2020.

Reported cases on Tuesdays tend to be higher, due to a weekend
lag.

The capital Sofia tops the list with 1,116 new cases, followed
by Burgas with 449, Plovdiv with 362 and Varna with 343 new
cases.

The active cases are 44,663. Currently, there are 7,269 COVID
patients in hospital, the highest number since the start of the
pandemic. Of them, 577 are in intensive care, the highest number
 since December 15, 2020.

There are 66 new cases among health workers, bringing the total
to 10,867.

Another 1,877 COVID-19 patients were reported as recovered on
Monday, bringing the total to 227,059.

The new deaths are 187, the highest number since December 16,
2020 when 191 deaths were reported. The death toll now stands at
 11,472.

With 2,828 new inoculations, 341,707 persons in aggregate have
been vaccinated against the coronavirus, of whom 59,994 have
