WWF Local Branch Calls for Preservation of Old-growth Forests in Bulgaria
Bulgaria is one of the few European countries that still has vast areas of old-growth forests. These forests, which are little affected by human intervention and have functioning natural ecosystems, connected biocorridors and diverse flora and fauna, cover an area of 150,000 – 200,000 ha, about 4-5% of all forests in the country, compared to an average of 1% in Europe, WWF Bulgaria said.
