Sofia, July 9 (BTA) - Speaking during a panel devoted to
transport held as part of the Business Forum which opened on
Thursday and is accompanying the Sixth Summit of the Three Seas
Initiative (3SI) in Sofia, caretaker Transport, IT and
Communications Minister Georgi Todorov said that the works for
digitalization of the rail transport will be of critical
importance in the future given the new role of rail transport in
the context of the European Green Deal, the post-covid economic
recovery, and the EU policies intended to redirect cargo
carried by road to carriage by rail.

Todorov said that improving the connectivity along the
North-South direction, which is a priority of 3SI, is important
for strengthening the ties between the 3SI members states. In
his words, Greece's joining 3SI is important for Bulgaria's
transport connectivity. Todorov said that the two neighbouring
countries work intensively to improve the opportunities in all
modes of transport and to develop projects in this direction.

Todorov also noted the importance of the speedy finalization of
the construction of the transport infrastructural along the
former pan-European transport corridor VIII in the section
between Bulgaria, the Republic of North Macedona and Albania,
which he said will ensure sustainable connectivity between the
Bulgarian Black Sea ports and the Adriatic coast.

Todorov said that the pooling of the efforts of the countries in
the region between the Adriatic, Baltic and the Black Sea to
improve connectivity will contribute in overcoming the existing
shortcomings in the infrastructure in Eastern Europe. NV/ZH
