August 6 (BTA) - President Rumen Radev decreed the
appointment of Peter Todorov as Chief Secretary of the Ministry
of Interior, the ministry reported on Friday. The new Chief
Secretary was presented to the leaders of Interior Ministry
directorates and agencies by caretaker Interior Minister Boiko
Rashkov.

Most recently, Todorov was acting Director of the Regional
Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Plovdiv, Southern
Bulgaria.

At a closed-door meeting on Wednesday, the Council of Ministers
decided to propose Todorov for Chief Secretary of the Interior
Ministry. The post will be vacated by Stoyan Temelakiev, who
became acting Chief Secretary shortly after Ivailo Ivanov was
removed from the job in May, early into the caretaker
government's term in office. Ivanov was fired over police
violence during anti-government protests last year.

Peter Todorov has many years of experience in the Interior
Ministry system, holding successively a range of subordinate and
leadership positions at the Plovdiv Regional Directorate. He
graduated from the Higher National Military School in Veliko
Turnovo. Between 1989 and 1992, he took courses at the Interior
Ministry Academy in Sofia. In September 1992, Todorov started
work with the Traffic Police. In 1998, he became unit chief at
the Criminal Police Section of 3rd Police Precinct Department in
Plovdiv, and in 2003, he was put in charge of the Traffic
Offences Section of the Plovdiv Directorate of the Ministry of
Interior.

In October 2005, Todorov headed 1st Police Precinct Department
in Plovdiv. He held the post until being appointed Deputy
Director of the Plovdiv Regional Directorate of the Ministry of
Interior on May 20, 2021. He became acting Director on June 25.
