site.btaOver 700 Foreigners of Bulgarian Origin, North Macedonia to Study in Bulgarian Universities

August 12 (BTA) - A total of 627 foreign nationals of
Bulgarian origin and 78 nationals of the Republic of North
Macedonia have been admitted to Bulgarian higher education
establishments, the Ministry of Science and Education said on
Thursday. The data, posted on the Ministry's e-platform, are
from the first round of admissions to graduate and postgraduate
programmes in Bulgarian universities.

The most preferred programmes are medical ones: humane medicine,
 dental medicine, and pharmaceutics, as well as medical
laboratory assistant, dental assistant, medical cosmetologist,
and kinesitherapist. Foreign students of Bulgarian origin and of
 North Macedonia have also enrolled to study law, linguistics,
engineering programmes, digital technologies, cybersecurity,
navigation, psychology, pre-school and school pedagogy,
journalism, Japanese studies, and Chinese studies.
   
The prospective foreign students of Bulgarian origin competed
for 1,770 places and of North Macedonia, for 147 places in a
total of 33 Bulgarian higher education establishments.

Foreigners of Bulgarian origin are exempt from tuition fees if
they are nationals of Albania, Kosovo, Moldova, the Republic of
North Macedonia, Ukraine, and Serbia. They receive a bursary of
240 leva in their first year at university; from the third
semester, the receipt of a bursary depends on the average grade
of the students from the previous two semesters.  
     
Other foreign students of Bulgarian origin and nationals of
North Macedonia pay the same tuition fees as Bulgarian students,
 the Education Ministry specifies.
