site.btaUnion of Workers in Culture Establishments Determined to Press on with Demands for Increased Funding, Threaten Protests
The chapter of culture workers of the Podkrepa Confederation of Labour declared that they would continue with their protest actions until the conclusive passing of the National Budget Act. The statement comes after the chair of the parliamentary Budget Committee, Lyubomir Karimanski, promised in a Nova TV interview that the appropriations for museums and galleries in the 2022 budget would be increased by 12 million leva, which is half of the increase demanded by the unions.
They argue that even if the promise is kept, the money will not suffice for the normal functioning of museums and galleries.
They say they did not even hear a promise that the funds for regional libraries would be increased.
“We are grateful for the promises, which we hope will not prove empty, but we also firmly declare that we shall continue with our protest actions across the country until the final passage of the National Budget Act,” the statement says.
