Bulgaria and UNICEF Continue to
Develop Children and Family
Policies in Partnership

Sofia, February 7 (BTA) - Overall development of children- and family-oriented policies, improving the care for children in foster homes and residential social services, improving healthcare, measures to prevent child abuse and dropping out of school will be some of the priorities in the new partnership programme between the Bulgarian government and the UN Children's Fund for the 2023-2027 period. Minister of Labour and Social Policy Georgi Gyokov and UNICEF's Ambassador to Bulgaria Christina de Bruin came to this agreement during a meeting, said the Ministry's Press Secretariat on Monday.

One of the main focuses of the Bulgaria-UNICEF partnership will be implementing the European Commission's European Child Guarantee as a key initiative for lowering child poverty and social exclusion on a European level. Deputy Minister Ivan Krastev who also attended the meeting said that over 140 million euro will be invested in that area under the Human Resources Development and Education operational programmes over the next seven years.

Christina de Bruin spoke highly of Bulgaria's leadership while it was implementing the European Child Guarantee. She also praised the country's progress in preparing the sub-legal framework for the Social Services Act. The meeting also focused on results of the reform aiming to deinstitutionalize childcare.

"The partnership between UNICEF and the Labour Ministry is an example of long-term, successful and effective cooperation aimed at supporting children and families," said Gyokov. RY/NZ
