Justice Minister Declines
Counter-corruption Commission's
Invite to Hearing over Alerts against Prosecutor General

Sofia, February 7 (BTA) - Justice Minister Nadezhda Yordanova sent a letter to the Couter-Corruption and Unlawfully Acquired Assets Forfeiture Commission, refusing to appear in response to an invitation from the ministry to answer question. She justified her decision by saying that "there is no legally justified reason for this", the press centre of the Ministry of Justice said.

Earlier in the day, the CCUAAFC invited Justice Minister Yordanova for a hearing on Tuesday. The commission's website clarifies that the reason for this is a check for the existence of signals against Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev in the Ministry of Justice.

On January 31 this year, after statements in the media made by Yordanova, the CCUAAFC launched an investigation into such signals. Notarized copies of the submitted signals and other relevant information was requested from Minister Yordanova.

To date, the requested materials have not been sent by the Ministry of Justice. Therefore, an invitation was sent to Minister Yordanova to appear in the directorate on February 8 and clarify the facts behind her statements to the media. DS/DT
