Simeon Deyanov
to Miss
Beijing Winter Olympics

Beijing, February 4 (BTA special correspondent Dimitar Velyov) - Bulgarian cross-country skier Simeon Deyanov is almost certain to miss the Beijing Olympics. Deyanov, 27, who is the only Bulgarian athlete to take part in cross-country skiing, tested positive for COVID last week, days before the planned departure and has been showing COVID symptoms.

Deyanov was slated to make his Olympic debut on February 6 in the 15 km +15 km skiathlon and on February 8 he was to take part in the sprint and on February 11 in the 15-km classic cross-country skiing.

With Deyanov's withdrawal Bulgaria will be represented in six sports by 15 athletes, which is the smallest number after the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid when eight athletes participated. DS/PP
