site.btaBulgaria and Romania Interact in Maritime Spatial Planning

November 26 (BTA) - Bulgaria and Romania successfully completed a project for interaction in maritime spatial planning. The final conference for the MARSPLAN-BS II Project was held online on Friday. The Bulgarian Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works was the lead partner and organizer of the project.

Speakers at the final conference presented the results achieved and stressed how the attainment of the main goals (drawing up a maritime spatial plan and working out a joint strategy for the Romania-Bulgaria cross-border region) can contribute to the development of the blue economy, which is essential for the implementation of the Green Deal.

Some 3.4 per cent (102,962 people) of all working Bulgarians are employed in the blue (maritime) economy.

The MARSPLAN-BS II Project was supported by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, which functions with the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund. It was aimed to back coordinated cross-sectoral maritime spatial planning in Bulgaria and Romania and create a long-term mechanism for cross-border cooperation in the Black Sea basin. RY/VE
