Justice Minister Ivanov:
Bulgaria in Favour of
Single, Strong European Public Prosecutor's Office
Luxembourg/Sofia, October 11 (BTA) - Bulgaria is in favour of a
strong European Public Prosecutor's Office, capable of
conducting investigations and pressing charges in the entire
single European legal area, Bulgarian caretaker Justice Minister
Hristo Ivanov said on Friday during a meeting of the EU Justice
and Home Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg. Ivanov
presented Bulgaria's position on the proposed regulation
establishing a European Public Prosecutor's Office.
Ivanov said that borders should not hinder criminal prosecutions
and that the contribution of the European Public Prosecutor's
Office is exactly in this respect, to act directly in concerned
jurisdictions, using its own tools and procedural powers,
without having to resort to the traditional methods of legal aid
between member states.
Ivanov said also that the question about the scope of the term
"single legal area" should be discussed additionally within a
working group in order to clarify the scope of the term and
reach an agreement on the matter. SN /ZH/
